We take pride in wood refinishing and restoration of any type or size. Decks, Porches, Log Cabins, Cedar sided homes, hemlock,  pine and Board & Batten construction are all types buildings that we service. In addition we restore lawn furniture, swing sets and privacy fences. The process we use is basically the same for all wood projects; detergents are adjusted for the type of wood we are working on. We clean, strip and apply a stain / sealer to enhance their natural beauty of your treasure and provide protection from the harsh seasonal weather here in the northeast.

The Evaluation and Test

Each restoration project starts with an complete assessment of the task at hand. This assessment starts with discussing with the homeowner the project and getting a feel for what type of finish they are looking for. Many things must be considered in the initial planning stages of this project.  One of the most important aspects of the project panning process is the test area. With the homeowners permission, we pick an area and perform a test to evaluate the wooden surface's response to cleaning. stripping and brightening. (Click Photo Tumbnails to Enlarge) This test will help in the selection of stripping agent, brightening agent and stain / sealer product.  Typically, we also measure the pre-project moisture content of the wood.

The Cleaning, Stripping and Brightening

After we have completed the test area and assessment of the project we start the stripping and brightening components of the restoration process. The stripping, brightening, and neutralizing detergents are selected based on the test area results evaluation. We select the product that will provide you with optimal results. .Neutralizing the stripping detergent insures that the finish will take to the wood surface well and it also facilitates the brightening and pre-staining preparation of the wood surface. The Staining and Sealing Process

Stain application is usually done using several different methods on each project. Spraying and brushing are the two typical application methods. In some situations, the stain is applied with a conventional  roller. Our stain / sealer of choice is ReadySeal. This is a penetrating oil sealer that is available in 6 different colors or shades. To provide excellent penetration, we often apply 2 coats of stain to the structure. .  .
